Finalising problems

When we exported the sequence from premier pro, and we added the titles from after effects, we found when we went to export it the quality went down a lot.  So we had to redo all the titles again in after effects and send it back to prem pro.

Soundtrack

We have nearly completed our soundtrack for our opening sequence using garage band

Ruthless Logo Editing

Composition One:
We thought there was too much black and white used and it will look too similar to the PHD Productions logo we have.

Composition Two:
Therefore, we have played around with the colours and found that yellow and red goes well together along with our theme. Here is our final design.

Problems that occurred during Filming

1) Some scenes we filmed we too dark or too blue.
We had to re-film the safe scenes 3 times to try get it how we wanted it; dark but light enough to see all movements. After re-filming with different lighting like adding blue gel filters to the lights etc. , we realised what we filmed at first worked best because the second time turned out to be even darker on computer and the third time with gel filters did not work well with our entire sequence as we have used warm lighting throughout and the gel filters gives out a cool-toned lighting therefore it looked odd.

2) The car scenes were too jumpy.
The first time we filmed the car scene, it was very jumpy as the driver has speeded up in some parts. After re-filming, the visual worked much better but another problem has came up. We forgot to turn on the mic while filming so we are just going to add in sound with garage band and other loops we can find online.

Titles Editing

We have started putting in the titles this week. We have decided to use normal 'Arial' font for headings like starring, featuring, etc and a special (..) font for the names. The colour scheme will be white, black based and we will also include a outer glow of the contrasting colour to make it stand out from the background. We are using After Effects for all the credits, title of the film and production companies.

Garage Band

Today we started looking at music for our opening sequence and having a go at garage band.

Music and Sound: Sherlock

Music and Sound

We've started thinking of what we want our sound effects and background music to sound like. After looking at different tracks from films and TV programmes of our genre like this, we have an idea of what our music should sound like and make the audience feel like.

Which we like because of the very rhythmic beat at the beginning that builds a lot of tension, and also the slight electric feel of it. However when the drums pick up the pace and the guitar comes in it starts to feel more racy and exciting. Even though crime action usually involves a lot of fast pace scenes, our film sequence is slightly more mysterious and intense. We could use a faster beat for the car scenes to show excitement because the scenes could get boring if we only show the cars driving and passing the camera.

Script

Burglars planning:

Haley:  Guys, we've been planning this for years now, we cannot fuck this up.  We need to be here at ten hundred hours.  Does everybody know the escape plan?

Tara, Hannah, Sonya: Yeah.

Haley:  Okay, we need to be in and out in five minutes, otherwise it's game over.  Is everybody understood?

Tara, Hannah, Sonya:  Yes.

Haley:  Alright, lets go.

Police planning scene:

Zara:  Thanks, bye (puts down phone) We just got a lead: 20 London Road SW15 (follows Joei to the big map on wall) okay let's go.

Burglars breaking in scene:

Haley: okay come on (opens door) alright let's go (goes into house) Guys you know what to do, let's go.

Haley: guys, split up and find the key. (finds the key) Guys i found it (Gets money) hannah you got the bag? (Leaves house) Come on.

Detectives arriving at wrong house:

Shola: something's wrong...there's no car here!

Jessica: this can't be happening, they've done it again, always one step ahead.

Casting - Grey blazer, blue tshirt, black trousers and black vans

Progress of Designing the Production Logo

We wanted to try out different types of fonts and compare them to see which one is best

All the layers and techniques we used on Photoshop. We have put some layers in a group folder to make it easier to move around and edit.

We thought of using a different font for 'Productions' however it does not work as well as when it they are in the same font.

We have used the same design but with different contrasting colours and we realised the white text on black background is best because our film is quite dark therefore the background will blend it better.

Final Choice:

Editing Progress

  • We have made 4 sequences as we haven't filmed all of it yet and some of the middle parts are missing and this is a way of seeing what a particular scene is like.  When we have filmed everything, we will put all the sequences together to make the full thing.

  • We found that some of the shots that we had filmed were way too dark and so we need to find a way of making the scene look dark but not too dark so you can't see the characters and what they are doing. Our scene requires low lighting because we're supposed to be burgling a house at night but most of them are too dark to see whats going on. Next lesson we're going to see if we can use effects to make the frames lighter instead of having to go back and reshoot them.

  • When we were filming the breaking in scene, we found that the actors hand was in a different place in the next shot, so we will need to re-film it.

Behind The Scenes: Car Scenes

Date of Filming: 3rd February 2014

We shot the scenes for the cars today but we thought that since it was still daylight when we got to Katie's house we could test out the roads and camera movements that we were going to use for them. Lucy got on a bike and rode out of the archway that the burglars are exiting from.

We also did a few pick up shots for the Detectives office because one of the shots was wonky.

This is the last shot we had to do in the office so we have completely finished filming one sequence of our film.

Production Logo Designing Progress

Brainstorming our Logo Design.

Firstly, we have downloaded some fronts that we think will be good for the logo on dafont.com.

Then we opened up Photoshop and started drawing out our ideas.

This is the outcome, however we are not a 100% satified so we may change it around later on.

Final Product:

Changes to the storyboard

We decided to change a very small shot in the detective's office. We were going to have the shots like this;
However after seeing the layout of Katie's dad's office we realised that we couldn't have the camera in front of the desk because of the window and so we instead filmed behind the desk and found that it looks much better anyway.

Storyboard Draft

Behind the Scenes: Reshooting

Date of Filming:
Monday 27th January 2014

To film the rest of the scene we decided to put the tripod up on the table for better framing and lighting.

When we came back to our location after almost 3 weeks everything was kept exactly the same to prevent continuity errors in filming.

We looked back at old footage on the camera to move the chairs and the blinds into the same position that they were in when we did the last filming session.

We had to film outside in the dark and so we needed the lights to be outside. To get the lights to work we had to get 6 extension leads leading from Katie's garage to her front door.

It had been raining on and off all day and so having the extension leads open would have been a health and safety risk. Rain could have gotten into the plug sockets and someone could have gotten an electric shock.

We put plastic bags over and around the plug sockets so that no rain could get into the holes or the wet ground wouldn't affect the extension.

We borrowed the safe from Julia's house and carried it to Katie's because there weren't any available at the location. It was heavy but we managed to get it set up in Katie's conservatory. We filled envelopes with paper that Katie cut into the shape of £10 and £20 notes with one or two real notes for authenticity.
